Join the lab

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTS

If you’re an interested undergraduate student at UCI, please fill out this application. While we are not actively looking for research assistants at this time, we will keep you application on file and if you're a good match for the lab, we will be in touch about an interview when we have availability.

We are particularly interested in first- and second-year students who have the potential to work in the lab for multiple years. In addition, you would benefit most from working in the lab if you are interested in pursuing graduate school in social psychology.

GRADUATE STUDENTS

I am actively recruiting a new student in the next application cycle, meaning applying in Fall 2023 to start in Fall 2024. If you think you are a strong fit for my lab or the department more generally, I strongly encourage you to apply.

I am looking for people interested in social inequality. My primary interest is in the study of economic inequality and social class. But I am also interested in other forms of inequality (gender, race, etc.) and how they intersect. Broadly speaking, I study how forms of (unearned) advantages and disadvantages impact our experiences with the social world. In order to investigate these subjects I employ a number of methodologies. I believe that experimental diversity makes research more fun and can answer questions in an interesting way. However, I value creativity and motivation over conventional training, so you won’t need a specific training (for example, in eye-tracking) to join the lab.

I try not to engage with applicants outside of the formal application process in an effort to keep things fair for those who might not know to reach out or feel uncomfortable doing so. So if you send me an email and you don’t hear back, don’t take it personally.

See here for information on our social psychology PhD program at UCI and here for information on the application process. If you decide to apply toUCI and you are preparing your materials, please make sure your intention to join my lab is clear.

The Psychology of Social Inequality (PSI) lab values the full spectrum of diversity in race, ethnicity, socio-economic background, gender identity and expression, and sexual orientation. We aim for inclusion and diversity through our research, education, and outreach, and we actively seek to promote people underrepresented in psychology.

Students of color, women, first generation college students, and other individuals underrepresented in science are strongly encouraged to apply to join the lab.
